“Domnul Tudor” Technical College started its activity in 1912 as “The Normal School for Teachers”. The name of the institution has changed over the years-“School for Apprentices”,”Industrial HighSchool nr.1” and “Domnul Tudor” School Group from 1991 up to 2007. Starting with 2007 it became “Domnul Tudor”(Mr. Tudor) Technical College.
Over the years, for Mehedinti county educational system, our school has become a real symbol as it has offered a complex form of education for pupils who have obtained access to information and the possibility to turn the given information into valuable knowledge.
In our county, we are the only educational institution in which the PHARE VET RO 9405 programme was implemented,our school becoming a school for development in the field.We are also Centre of Resources within the PHARE programme for Economical and Social Cohesion-part of the professional and technical educational system-a fact that proves once again our desire to continue the tradition on one hand and to transform our institution in a school of the future on the other hand.
Our school is a CISCO Local Academy and it is equipped with Mehedinti RoEduNet POP that gives the possibility to all the educational institutions in the county to connect to the internet. “Domnul Tudor” Technical College from Drobeta Turnu-Severin promotes a modern, flexible,quality form of education that has as the main goal the desire to offer the inhabitants from the South-West of Oltenia opportunities for education and training in accordance with the new national, international,economical and social reality.
In the school year 2016-2017, in our school there are 28 classes with 603 pupils (462-high school and 141 after College education). The distinctive feature of our school is given by the fact that it combines the real profile (mathematics-informatics specialization) with the technical profile (Electronics, Automation, Electric Field, Mechathronics and Mechanics).

Report of the Learning and Teaching Activities
“Domnul Tudor” Technical College organized between 21st and 25th of May the first transnational meeting from the Erasmus+ project, with the acronym ROBO (ID:2017-1-IT02-KA219-036552_3). The partner schools in the project are: Istituto Superiore Ruggiero d'Altavilla - Vincenzo Accardi - Italy, Zespol Szkol im. por. Jozefa Sarny w Gorzycach - Poland, Colegiul Tehnic “Domnul Tudor” - Romania, Vasil Levski Comprehensive School - Bulgaria.
The activities which took place have been the ones on the meeting agenda and they all have been carried out taking into consideration the main objective of the project: preventing school dropout through an innovative learning approach based on informal education and the use of ITC in robotics.
The first day May 21st was dedicated to the welcoming of the participants and the school visit. The participants met, shared ideas, knowledge and expectations.
The opening session of the first mobility was warmly saluted by the representatives of the local community. Thus on May 22nd, the Mayor of our town, Mr. Marius Screciu, welcomed the delegations from the partner countries, wishing them good luck in all the activities on the agenda. In addition, Mr. Mihai Demian, the dean of the University of Craiova, The Faculty of Mechanics, has appreciated in a positive way the students’ preoccupation for robotics, underlining the fact that the future belongs to this domain. The event was largely presented on the local TV stations underlining the benefits of such projects for schools but for the local community as well.
The Power Point presentation of hardware components used to build the robot showed the audience a short history of ARDUINO UNO, presenting with details, suggestive pictures and schemes, the component parts and the way they function. It was an interactive presentation where the audience asked or answered questions.
The third activity on day 2 was dedicated to discussing and analyzing the ARDUINO UNO development board and ARDUINO IDE. The students watched a demonstration with some devices that were using ARDUINO development board and different sensors (a board with led blinks, a counter on a display of seven segments, a buzzer emitting sounds when sensing an obstacle and the way a robot moved). The participants worked in groups and were asked to solve a task based on one of the devices showed by the trainer.
The activity with the title Romanian Cultural Values proposed dancing and folk music from our county performed by singers and dancers from our school, but also by guests from Palatul Copiilor, Scoala “Regele Mihai I”, and Liceul Tehnologic “Drobeta”. The participants danced together and found out more about our traditions and culture.
The “Walking Tour” of the town was another appreciated moment by all the guests. Palatul Cultural “Theodor Costescu”, with its great architecture, was considered a real landmark and Castelul de Apa, a real symbol of the town, offered a great view of the town which was captured in many photographs. The parks and the kinetic fountain were also greatly appreciated
Day 3, May 23rd, began with the “Programming Oriented Activities ”. The trainers presented the basic structures of C++ programming language, sustained by the execution of some relevant applications. The participants worked in the ITC laboratory making conjecture and refining their understanding of the programming concepts. The feedback of the activity was obtained through a programming contest where the students showed their ITC knowledge and their teamwork skills.
The second activity of day 3 was the “Presentation of the Robot Building Experience”. Each country presented its robot building experience using power point presentations or demonstrations of the robots following the route. The students presented the parts they used to create the robots, the programs for the robot behavior but also the way they felt during the experience, the problems they faced, sharing ideas and trying to learn from the experience of their colleagues.
Another attractive activity showing the use of automatics and robotics in the field of education was the one with simulators presented by Centrul Universitar from Drobeta Turnu Severin. The participants had the opportunity to perform simulating exercises after being explained the procedure.
The visit to Hidrocentrala “ Portile de Fier I ”, one of the biggest hydro technical constructions in Europe, and the biggest on the Danube, offered all the teams the chance to see how automatics and robotics are applied in economic activities. This example of good practice made the participants refine their understanding of robotics.
The climax of the agenda and the most expected event of the day 4, May 24th, was the Robot Contest. The jury established the rules for all the teams and the penalties for not obeying them. The robots from each country followed the already established route and the best time from the three tries was taken into consideration in order to establish the fastest robot.
The activity “Robo the Connection Between School and University” enlarged students’ knowledge about various uses of robotics in nowadays world, They were presented the study programs of the College and the educational area in connection with ITC and robotics.
As a follow up of the visit to Hidrocentrala “ Portile de Fier I ” - an example of good practice in automation, the boat trip on the Danube offered us the chance to see the artificially created lake of the hydro electrical plant, from Orsova and beyond. It was also a great occasion to discover the wonders of the Danube and Cazane Natural Reservation.
On day 5, May 25th,, the workshop “How Is Going On” was the moment when the participants shared experiences, ideas and expectations towards the project, discussing how to accomplish the activities and tasks of the project.
The feedback session offered the participants the occasion to share their experience, feeling, ideas both orally but also by filling in some feedback questionnaires which showed us the way they felt, and what was their opinion on the activities.
The drawing contest “Ideas, Ideas, Ideas… Robo Design ” promoted creative thinking and innovation, bringing students together in order to show their talents, skills, ideas and expectations towards robots and the entire project. All the teams were declared winners.
All the activities on the agenda attained the objectives and the close relations established between partners will contribute to fulfilling the main goal, preventing school dropout through an innovative learning approach based on informal education and the use of ITC in robotics.

The teenagers of today- the students and the teenagers of yesterday! The teachers involved in the Erasmus+ project, with the acronym ROBO (ID:2017-1-IT02-KA219-036552_3), participated in the first transnational reunion which took place between 21st – 25th of May 2018, at “Domnul Tudor” Technical College, Drobeta Turnu Severin. The partner schools in the project are: Istituto Superiore Ruggiero d'Altavilla - Vincenzo Accardi, Italy, Zespol Szkol im. por. Jozefa Sarny w Gorzycach, Poland, Colegiul Tehnic ”Domnul Tudor”, Romania, Vasil Levski Comprehensive School, Bulgaria.
Many times it is the teenager’s mission to coagulate the infinite in a star, but through this project, the students in each partner country have coagulated their knowledge and skills obtained through extra preparation hours in creating a robot. And… everything started from the main objective of the project, preventing school dropout through an innovative learning approach based on informal education and the use of ITC in robotics.

The meeting agenda created by the project team from “Domnul Tudor” Technical College proposed a large variety of activities that captured the attention of the participants. There were presentations of the hardware components and programming concepts used to create the robots, and all the teams shared their robot building experience. The visit to Iron Gate I, one of the biggest hydro-technical constructions in Europe, and the biggest on the Danube, offered all the teams the chance to see how automatics and robotics are applied in economic activities. Another attractive activity showing the use of automatics and robotics in the field of education was the one with simulators presented by the University Center from Drobeta Turnu Severin.
Our adolescents, these rebel children that are addicted to internet and online games and prefer accessing a site to obtain information, have proven great skills, curiosity, the desire to know more, to communicate and to work in teams.
The participants also appreciated the other activities proposing dancing and folk music from our county performed by singers and dancers from our school, but also by guests from the Children’s Palace, “King Michael I” School, and “Drobeta” Special Technical High School.
The walking tour of the town was another appreciated moment by all the guests. “Theodor Costescu” Cultural Palace, with its great architecture, was considered a real landmark and The Water Castle, a real symbol of the town, offered a great view of the town which was captured in many photographs. So The Water Castle became not only a tourist attraction but also an orientation point for the foreign students.
The boat trip on the Danube, offered the participants the chance to see Cazanele Mari Natural Reservation, a unique monument of nature in Europe.
The climax of the agenda was the Robot Contest of the robots built by each team. Speed was essential and also respecting the route already established. All the students participating in the project have proven bravery, creativity, and eagerness to discover the secrets of robotics.
This project opened bridges towards knowledge, brought dreams that will definitely become reality, confirmed the value of all the students involved and they were all declared “winners ”.

A new European project, successfully implemented by the school units in Drobeta Turnu-Severin! This time, the school that managed to get involved in the project is the "Domnul Tudor" Technical College. Students from three countries came to Drobeta Turnu-Severin today to implement "Remain On Board" to reduce school drop-out.

Day 1, 16th October 2018
The first activity was the school visit and the meeting with the teachers and students from all the four countries involved in the project. We all shared ideas, knowledge and expectations about the project.
The audio video materials, presenting the schools and the towns of the teams participating in the project, attracted the attention of the audience through their creativity and originality.
Then we shortly visited the town of Troyan in order to discover its landmarks and its touristic attractions.
All the afternoon was dedicate to the visit to Troyan Monastery, the third biggest one in Bulgaria, and to the National Exhibition of Folk Arts and Crafts. We were impressed by the Bulgarian architecture and by the history of these places. We got to know the traditional art and the Bulgarian folklore through the items exhibited there. The students showed their practical skills creating clay objects. They were captivated by the activity and we all enjoyed ourselves.
Day 2, 17th October 2018
The day began with an invitation at the school canteen where the students, divided in teams, prepared a traditional Bulgarian breakfast, under the coordination of the host students. The activity led us into a good mood and in the end we tasted the products we had prepared before.
Next on the project agenda was the visit to Troyan Cityhall. We were received in the festivity room by the Mayor of Troyan, Donka Mihaylova, who welcomed us warmly. She gave a short presentation of the town, which turns 150 years of existence.
The rain didn’t stop us to continue the activities because the students were involved in the competition called „The Treasury of Knowledge”. Each team had to find certain codes on the most significant buildings in town and to get to finish as soon as possible. The students managed to find their way using a telephone and the indications from the team leader. The competition was very exciting and the effort of each student was rewarded in the end with diplomas and a cake.
Day 3, 18th October 2018
We departed by bus to Gabrovo, early in the morning. There we visited the biggest Open Air Museum with traditional items from Bulgaria. We were presented with authentic objects well preserved here, the three water mills, but also replicas of houses and old crafting shops. The boys were interested in the knives and leather manufacturing, and the girls in the ones working with silver. We all tasted the products from the bakery and the sweets shop.
Then we visited Veliko Tarnovo, the second historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. In a relatively short period of time we found out many things about some of the main touristic attractions from Bulgaria, by visiting the miniatures displayed in the park called Mini-Bulgaria. We were fascinated by the architecture of the town situated on a steep side of a hill and by its cobbled narrow streets.
Day 4, 19th October 2018
The competition of robots was the most expected event on the agenda. The teams have prepared their robots and they have tested them for 20 minutes on the pre established routes. The robots raised on the two routes after the rules had been announced. The winner was decided through making the ratio between the two times on the route. The whole experience was successful for all the teams.
The afternoon was dedicated to the workshop with the firm “Robotika” from Sofia. The participants had the chance to build a mini robot using lego parts. The mixed teams collaborated to realize a tank that had to follow a route with obstacles. The students were fascinated both by the construction elements and by the programming part.
The state dinner from Bulgaria restaurant reunited the host families, the students and the teachers who participated in the project. The already formed relations of friendship were strengthened in an informal environment, the challenge of the evening being the Bulgarian folk dances. Here, the students received the diplomas for the robot’s competition.
Day 5, 20th October 2018
The students spent the day in a relaxed way, with the host families. Some of them went in trips, others went to picnics or spent the day in town, and they have all consolidated the friendship relationships, having fun together.

Day 1, 4th February 2019
The first activity was the meeting with the teachers and students from all the four countries involved in the project. We all shared ideas, knowledge and expectations about the project.
Then we met the headmaster of the school, who presented to us a short history of the school and the most important projects of Zespol Szkol in Gorzyce. We talked about the school system in Poland, the tendencies regarding national policy in education, the profile of the institution and its partners in the local community.
The opening session, with the general introduction of the schools by host school students and teachers, was an impressive event. The program included welcoming presentations, song performed by our hosts and a short historical play that were greatly appreciated.
The audio video materials, concerning the work with Arduino robot of all the teams participating in the project, attracted the attention of the audience through their creativity and originality.
The school visit was the next activity on the agenda. We had the chance to see the classrooms, the laboratories, the hostel and the headmaster’s office. We were impressed by the technical laboratories and the variety of machines and procedures, but also by the creativity with which the students decorated the walls of the classrooms and the corridors.
Day 2, 5th February 2019
We all met at Opatowska Gate (Old City) in Sandomierz and were invited to visit the town accompanied by a professional tour guide. We found out a lot of things about the history of the place and the uses of different buildings. The students and the teachers were impressed by the cobbled streets and the architecture of the buildings, but mostly by the subterranean tunnels where the people used to store their goods or hide in case of danger. The tour also took us to the Diocesan Museum. There was a variety of collections of paintings, sculptures, embroidery and religious objects that composed the treasury of the region. We took a lot of pictures in the Opatowska Tower, in the pigeon square, and had a lot of fun following the secret corridors of the tunnels.
Then we were kindly welcomed by the Mayor of the town, who expressed his admiration for such innovative projects like ours. He promises that local authorities will continue to support the schools in such approaches. The students and teachers expressed their views about the town and we talked about unique features that make Sandomierz and its surroundings worth visiting. Each participant received souvenirs from the local authorities and the event was advertised in the local media.
The day begun with a work - session in the AUTOCAD laboratory. The students were asked to create a 3D piece using the specific instructions in the worksheet. The activity was designed to have two parts: in the first stage the students worked in groups and drew the object on the computer in 2D, and then, in the second stage, through modeling along the symmetry axis, they managed to create the final product.
Our next activity was the visit to Federal Mogul Company in Gorzyce. After being presented with the safety procedures we visited the entire factory. The specialist explained to us the use of robots in the technical processes of making pistons and other car components. We had the chance to see which were the actual steps of making the famous pistons for various types of cars. The partnership with the school impressed us, because we found out that many graduates of Zespol Szkol were hired by this firm (which produces 6% of the car pistons at the global level).
Day 4, 7th February 2019
In the morning we departed to Chmielow (NSG Group Factory). We visited The NSG Pilkington Automotive Glass Production Plant. Teachers and students were explained the safety procedures and were given appropriate equipment. Our host presented, during the factory tour, the process of producing various types of glass for cars. Again the process was automated and the quality of the products was thoroughly checked in order to fit the requirements of the clients.
Our next activity on the agenda was the guided tour of Baranow Sandomiersky Castle. The guide gave us a detailed presentation of the history of the castle, emphasizing the unique features it possessed. We found out many interesting things about the owners of the castle during the time and the improvements they made. The furniture and the craftsmanship of the appliances were amazing, and the architecture of the entire castle was superb.
The workshop with robots in the afternoon, near Baranow Castle, was an activity full of excitement. The participants had the chance to build a mini robot using lego parts. The mixed teams collaborated to realize the best robot, that had to lift a wooden bell and to follow a route with obstacles from start to end, without losing the object. The students were fascinated both by the construction elements and by the programming part and they managed to find creative solutions to the problems they encountered.
Day 5, 8th February 2019
The competition of robots was the most expected event on the agenda. The teams prepared their robots and they tested them for 20 minutes on the pre established route. The robots had to follow a route with gaps and to be able to reach the end. The whole experience was successful for all the teams. The students received the diplomas for the robot’s competition and they filled in the feedback questionnaire.
The next activity was the competition teachers versus students in the gym at Zespol Szkol in Gorzyce. The two teams played volleyball and the score was very close. The event was an exciting one bringing together the teachers and the students from all the countries.
The students spent the rest of the day in a relaxed way, with the host families and they all consolidated the friendship relationships, having fun together.
The state dinner reunited the students and the teachers who participated in the project. The already formed relations of friendship were strengthened in an informal environment. We laughed, we danced, we discussed and we had fun planning our next activities.

First Day, 7h April 2019
Our hosts invited us in a walking tour of Mazara del Vallo. The city of “sea, wind and sun”, Mazara has a very rich history. Due to its strategic position, the town has been conquered over the time by various people: the Greek, the Normans, the Arabs.
In our visit we started from Mokarta Square with the Norman Castle Wall, and we had a tour of the most significant historical landmarks: the Gesuite College, the Vescoville Seminar, The Statue of Saint Vito and Garibaldi Theatre. We were impressed by the architectural beauty of the cathedral built because of Ruggero d’Altavilla in 1072 and by the variety of old priceless items exhibited in the Diocesan Museum and the Museum of the Dancing Satire. The intricate system of roads led us through impressive parks with palm trees, to the port, unique in Sicily due to its channels. During our walk we learned a lot of historical details about the town and its inhabitants, about their customs and traditions, surrounded by breathtaking views.
In the afternoon, parents, students and teachers went on a trip to the Archeological Park of Selinunte. It was a moment to strengthen the relations between partners in an informal activity. The ruins of the imposing temples and the museum exhibitions offered us significant data for the understanding of the customs and legends in different old periods in that region.
Day 2, 8th April 2019
The second day was dedicated to the school visit. Istituto d’Istruzioni Superiore R.D’Altavilla-V. Accardi is a big school that offers various profiles: electrotechnics, electronics, mechatronics, environmental biotechnology, the chemistry of materials, naval constructions, graphics and communication. During the activity we were invited to participate in various experiments in different types of laboratories.
In the chemistry lab we were explained the safety procedures and the different processes that are carried out there. We saw the devices and the results of some of the activities that happen in the food safety laboratory. We observed through the microscopes various types of cells in the biology laboratory and learned about the different diseases and the way they can be discovered. The students and the teachers became workers on big ships and guided them through different weather conditions, in various destinations, in the simulation centre.
In the mechatronic laboratory we were presented with the most important creations of the students. We were explained how the automated processes function in the case of the greenhouse, the elevator, the mobile bridges or the solar panels.
Day 3, 9th April 2019
We started the agenda with the meeting with the headmaster of the school. We discussed about the importance of the projects and its effects on student’s behavior but also about the educational system in our countries and what can be done to improve the actual state of facts.
The next activity on the agenda was the general evaluation of the past four months of the project activities. Each country presented the short films rendering their experience. The day continued with a workshop on low cost Arduino projects. The students work in group assembling various parts of robots and concentrated on programming them to fulfill certain tasks. The teachers decided on the rules for the exhibition. The judges were selected and they created the evaluation sheet for the presentation of the products.
We had lunch at school and teacher and student tasted typical Sicilian food. Everything was delicious. After lunch, the students started working on the project’s activities. They tested their robots together, talked about various uses for them and shared their ideas and thoughts.
Day 4, 10th April 2019
In the morning we departed to Palermo. The scenery along the way impressed us all. We had a captivating walking tour of the landmarks of this busy city. The architecture of the buildings was impressive and the mixture of styles, due to various influences, was unique.
The Arab Norman Cathedral in Palermo, included in the World Heritage List captured our attention with its beauty. Garibaldi Theater and Pretoria Fountain were also impressive reminiscence of a glorious history. Our journey took us to the famous port and the souvenir shops, but we have also tried various types of tasty Sicilian street food.
Day 5, 11th April 2019
On Thursday, each country presented their creations. The students described the robots and demonstrated the way they work. Each robot showed originality, complexity, a creative purpose and all of them impressed the four judges and also the entire audience. Each team work was rewarded afterwards in the award and certificate ceremony.
In the evening, we participated in the farewell party. Parents, students and teachers had great fun together. The DG animated the atmosphere continuously and the audience kept dancing until midnight. The close relations of friendship already established, were strengthen in an informal environment, sharing customs traditional dances and ideas.
Day 6, 12th April 2019
In the last day we went at the mountains in Sicily. We drove to Erice, a small village at 751m above the sea. We walked from Trapani Gate through the narrow cobbled streets, until we reached the Venus Castle. We enjoyed the extraordinary panorama of the golf of Gulf of Trapani and the tip of San Vito Lo Capo at the horizon and the port of Trapani. We tasted the famous local sweets and admired the handmade decorated ceramics. Sometimes the clouds surrounded us, enhancing the mystery, other times the views urged us to take pictures.
In the afternoon we visited Trapani. The rain caused some troubles, but nothing stopped us from admiring the narrow streets, the architecture of the buildings and churches, the parks and squares or the beaches and the port.
